The writer, ray, has had a writing hiatus for over, say six months. You could say that she chose to pause in her writing endeavours for the sake of collecting ideas, drawing inspiration from other artistic aspects in life, amassing more life experiences, etc.
Or you could say, in simpler words, that she was just….lazy. Yup.
However, there was a nagging itch behind the writer’s thoughts which has finally exploded. Bam! Wham!
And so, instead of pursuing a full and more complete writing career/journey/commitment, she has decided to open up a simple, minimalistic blog which gives her the chance to write whenever she can and at the same time polish her writing skills and style.
So, dear readers, please support this aspiring new writer and look forward to her flourishing creations.

New life habits and other changes

If you asked me about the biggest change I have seen recently, I would say myself. I have been noticing these miniscule changes that it prompted me to write it down just to see how much about myself is different compared to say, five, or maybe ten years ago. For starters, what I can see is that I have been trying to instill better life habits. Drinking more water is my everyday mantra. I keep reminding myself to gulp down more and I do. My 15-year-old self wouldn't have bothered. I hated plain water back then, unless if it was to satisfy the thirst caused by exercising. Homemade fruit juices were just the same; I disliked the icky texture swirling in my mouth and the instant fill it made in my stomach. But, who knew how much I would look forward to having my fill every afternoon with a blend of staple fruits like bananas, apples, oranges and the occasional dragonfruit and papayas? I always have it with some fresh milk, just to make it smoother and taste better.  Apart from...

My Mother & Her "English" Surprises

My mother is a woman of surprises. She used to strike me as being cool-headed, popular with the elderly and a good housewife. I never thought of her as being outspoken. But there have been occasions when I was surprised by her bouts of guffawing at a TV scene, or her hidden talent at imitating my father’s agitated voice and temper. That made me laugh, every time. It is also interesting to note that her English skills are something that she needs help with. Reading the newspaper is her version of getting the daily updates on the world outside. As our household has only English newspapers, and she isn’t particularly inclined to acquiring Mandarin publications daily, she acquiesces to reading it whenever she has free time. Oftentimes, she needs help understanding certain vocabulary, like pillion rider . Suffice to say, her English skills could use some polishing. I had a 180 switch of my opinion about that, one day. If it wasn’t for her, going Dutch would still be an alien phrase...
