*UPDATED* Favourite Youtube Channels

Youtube has been my source of entertainment and one of the two main platforms where I spend most of my time online, the other being Instagram.

The last time I spoke about my favourite channels on Youtube had been three years ago, and a lot has changed since then. In fact, the Youtube sphere has seen some changes here and there as well and I'm not just referring to its settings. But today is not the day to talk about Youtube's evolution, but rather the shift in what I prefer watching these days.

In the past I preferred watching makeup tutorials, GRWMs and makeup-related product reviews. Those type of videos made me relax and helped me unhinge after a busy day. These days, however, I noticed that lifestyle-themed videos and chit-chats about life spoke to me more. In other words, I am more likely to click onto videos where topics about adulthood, the hard bearings of life, travel and life topics were explored and covered by the Youtuber. Don't misunderstand me, I still watch makeup reviews and tutorials, but somehow, they no longer entice me the way they always do any more.

Without further ado, let me dive into introducing some of my current niches on YT.

1. The Korean twins with a love for fashion, coffee & unicorns- Q2HAN

I cannot not talk about my favourite YT channels without mentioning Q2HAN. IF I feel upset or am not in the mood to mingle with people, I watch their videos to de-stress. The duo consists of a pair of identical twins, Qjin & Qwon who are Koreans but speak fluent English as they grew up overseas. Their channel features lifestyle videos that range from food mukbangs, fashion/styling ideas, Kpop idol fashion challenges to everyday vlogs, Seoul cafe hopping and travel vlogging. I think what separates them from other fashion/Korean speaking channels is their bubbly and bright demeanour that genuinely makes people laugh and smile as well as their unique fashion sense. It is not difficult to notice how they often sport bright and clashing outfits which somehow seem fitting on them. Did I mention that I was partly inspired by them to chop off my long locks too?

Recommended videos to watch: Cafe visits, Travel vlogs, Kpop idol outfit challenges.

2. The Skincare Guru with a humour- James Welsh

People who know me well know that I have a thing for skincare. So, when I first came across his videos, I was perpetually ecstatic! His knowledge about skincare ingredients, coupled with some humour and a lovely British accent is a magnet for more viewers. Plus, you don't get many male youtubers who are as obsessed about skincare AND has perfect skin as him. Talk about #skingoals . I find myself playing his videos whenever I'm doing my own skincare regimen. Another interesting thing to note is that he has a twin brother who is a makeup artist! Their mother must be beaming now. There are only a few Youtubers whom I trust when it comes to finding out actual and honest reviews about skincare products and James Welsh is one of them. You can have confidence that what he has to say about products aren't paid for and that says a lot in today's Youtube realm.

Recommended videos to watch: Product reviews, Skincare 101 playlist

3.  Fashionista turned lifestyle vlogger with wise advices- Amy Lee

Click here to go to Amy's channel

Previously named Vagabond Youth, Amy Lee's Youtube channel featured fashion tips and outfit ideas. But I was more attracted to her videos when she started focusing on lifestyle centred videos that talk about some of the more sensitive and in some countries, taboo topics like mental health, being an adult, LGBTQ, money issues and the use of substances. I find her honesty and personal opinions on these topics to be inspiring and I'm awestruck. The wise words she spews as well as her philosophical perspective blows me away. She has a playlist titled The AM With Amy which I never missed an episode of whenever she released them. I remember enjoying them in the wee hours of the morning whilst chugging on oats in my dorm room as I was preparing for the early morning class every Tuesday. Besides chatting about societal issues and personal struggles, Amy also records her  daily life, makeup GRWMs, her social circle and the occassional outfit videos. She is certainly one of a kind and someone I would  look to for kind words and for her wisdom.

Recommended videos to watch: The AM With Amy playlist, daily life vlogs

4. The Beauty Host with a calm voice- Rowena Tsai

You read that right. Her voice calms me down immensely and I could just play her videos while I do house chores. Rowena Tsai is a beauty host on the virtual channel called Beauty Within, and a lifestyle vlogger. She records videos about the things that inspire her, the things that have hurt her and the things that have helped her overcome fears. You can expect to hear recounts of her personal experiences where she lost her brother at a young age, how that affected her throughout her college years, how she recovered and arrived to where she is today. Besides that, she shares habits and practices that may help you on your journey to becoming a better person physically, mentally and spiritually. I vividly remember a video(which I will attach down below) where she talks about money issues that impressed me. Apart from the above, she vlogs about her daily work life, her family and friends as well as GRWM videos. I get a sense of ease whenever I watch her videos because she proves that all Youtubers are like you and me; human. And after watching her videos, I feel refreshed and motivated, and ready to take on the next challenge even though it might be baby steps.

Recommended videos to watch: her tidying up vlogs, and practically all of her videos.

It cannot be argued how many hours of video I consume in a day. But I can proudly say that  these videos have helped me, in one way or another, in the understanding of certain issues and matters which I find difficult to comprehend. Of course, I watch a lot of other Youtubers as well but these are my current favourite channels that I will not hesitate to tune into, any minute of the day. Comment down below what channels you are currently loving and why you recommend them!

  1. As I never have a fix channel that I really liked on Youtube, I find it intriguing as you love watching Youtube videos so much. I once loved Nigahiga very much, until he got himself a girlfriend hahahhaha
Maybe I will try to watch a few, especially the bearded guy who talks about skincare!

My Mother & Her "English" Surprises

My mother is a woman of surprises. She used to strike me as being cool-headed, popular with the elderly and a good housewife. I never thought of her as being outspoken. But there have been occasions when I was surprised by her bouts of guffawing at a TV scene, or her hidden talent at imitating my father’s agitated voice and temper. That made me laugh, every time. It is also interesting to note that her English skills are something that she needs help with. Reading the newspaper is her version of getting the daily updates on the world outside. As our household has only English newspapers, and she isn’t particularly inclined to acquiring Mandarin publications daily, she acquiesces to reading it whenever she has free time. Oftentimes, she needs help understanding certain vocabulary, like pillion rider . Suffice to say, her English skills could use some polishing. I had a 180 switch of my opinion about that, one day. If it wasn’t for her, going Dutch would still be an alien phrase...

Life is a splash of colours But there is a hue which belongs to you Life is a motion of moments of which only you see and keep Life is a collection of tastes of which your tongue savours and remembers Life is the sky, mountain and sea where you soar, plunder and cross Life may be beauty and flaw which differs only in the eyes of the beholder Life may be small or big depending on how you want it to be Life quite often changes shape in the hands of its owner So do not merely live, but instead be the life you want to be                                                                                                       [saol]

A strand of thought: Education

Based on the knowledge that I currently own, I believe that education is not teaching "A is right and B is wrong", but rather teaching the young ones to think "Why is A right and B wrong?", "Why can't A be wrong and B be right?", or "Why can't both A and B be wrong/right?" -Ray's strand of thought
